We use Pingdom to solve a few problems from uptime monitoring to verification of responses from specific endpoints. As well, we have used it to ensure that our partner's services are up and present as well. This helps us when we are trying to diagnose issues. Their ability to support different monitoring types helped us choose the product.

  • Dashboard Information Summary
  • Notifications
  • API Access
  • Breakout of service options.
The level of program that we use lends itself well to services and products that have many URL endpoints that you want to monitor response times, presence, and content of. I don't remember if they have small enough offerings for front pages with only one or two urls that you'd want to monitor. If you service customers globally, Pingdom having multiple POPs is definitely helpful. The multiple POPs also helps remove notification fatigue when your services are only inaccessible from a single location.

Its our last frontier of monitoring. When things go bad we depend on using it for monitoring our public endpoints and to understand if something bad really happened. We have internal monitoring, but Pingdom has proven itself to be our fallback, and main public endpoint monitoring. We have integrated it with our Status pages, our on-call and it is one stop solution for our needs on the edge of our platform.
  • Multi endpoint monitoring
  • Latency monitoring
  • Tagging of alerts
  • Customized payload alerts for statuses different than 200
  • Grouping of alerts
  • Organisation support
Pingdom has been one of our critical components for the past 5 years. When things go bad I depend on Pingdom to be our last frontier of our monitoring solution.Having in mind the time we have used the product I am amazed that we had only 1 false-positive alert for that period. Its strong, well positioned production that I will continue to recommend to every company I work for.

I would love to see more functionalities added to the external monitoring toolset of Pingdom, like direct integrations with the known softwares out there.

We at Hevo use Pingdom primarily for URL/endpoints and website uptime monitoring and alert tool. Also, each product team can set up monitoring of their internet-facing product on Pingdom.
  • URL/endpoints and website monitoring from different parts of the world
  • Uptime reporting
  • DNS uptime and alerting
  • Website speed test

We were using Pingdom to check the availability of our client's sites. Also we had a monitoring site in each of our web fleets, and we were using checks with each of those monitoring sites to detect when a fleet was down. We set alerts to be notified when sites were not accessible. It also helped us to provide our clients a visibility of theirs sites response using public status pages. It also helped to determine if we were under our SLA because Pingdom provided us how long a site was down. That way we could build the reports we sent to clients.
  • providing uptime stats
  • notifying us when sites were down
  • public status page (clients did love that)
  • Nothing at the top of my head right now. Our usage was very basic I guess, and we didn't have any issues using the available features.
Basically with Pingdom we were able to provide a better service to our clients. I want to emphasise on public status pages. It is hard to provide clients access to our monitoring tools, and sometimes to make them public and secure it requires a bit of effort. With Pingdom, and a few clicks, clients were able to have a visibility of their sites behaviour.

We were suffering from website outages, so deployed Pingdom to alert us as to the frequency and times this was happening.

It was a bit of an eye-opener, as it turns out our website was going down a lot more often than we were aware. By comparing the Pingdom alerts to our firewall and webserver logs, we were able to track down the cause of our issue.
  • Instant alerts
  • Weekly reports
  • Alerts when device is back online
  • Testing of individual webpages
  • Handling other types of webpage e.g. a *.esp page
  • Ability to add users directly, rather than via my.solarwinds.cloud
  • Sending of additional details when a device is down e.g. a screenshot of the webpage error
Pingdom is well suited to monitor any of your public facing IPs, so you receive an alert by text message or email when the IP you are monitoring does not respond for a given length of time, from an impressive 10ms to 30s. This allows you to be pretty granular with the alerting.
It's less appropriate for monitoring IPs on your LAN, unless you NAT these through your firewall.

We bought Pingdom initially just to do quick and easy monitoring of our Customer facing web hosting to make sure all sites were up and responding, and would have been happy with just that functionality for the price paid. Afterwards we set up synthetic checks to log into these environments and validate basic functionality. Next, with some relatively minor code changes to our hosting, we started gathering Real User Experience data showing actual stats of page load times, user location and experiences. The only drawback we've found is that it's only capturing the initial page load - if you then do searches within that page you'll need some other way of capturing those stats.<br><br>That aside, we are very satisfied Customers and I'd be more than happy to recommend this
  • Ease of use
  • Value for money
  • Reporting
  • Inability to capture Real User Monitoring stats for searches within a page

We use SolarWinds Pingdom to monitor our production environments in real-time to detect and log any downtime that may occur, we also use the integration with OpsGenie to page our team should a downtime event go over a threshold we have specified. Thanks to SolarWinds Pingdom we are able to react much faster to downtime incidents and typically resolve these problems before our customers have noticed there may be a problem.
  • Monitoring of resources, in particular configuring a specific endpoint
  • Reasonably priced
  • Easy to use interface
  • Support is lackluster and can be slow to respond.
  • Some features of their API are broken and still have not been fixed (Updating maintenance windows).
Overall, I feel SolarWinds Pingdom is a great product at a very reasonable price, it does it's job fairly well and for the most part we are happy with the product and will continue to use it to monitor our production workloads to ensure we meet SLAs and maintain the highest uptime possible for our customers. The integration with OpsGenie greatly helps with this as we can be paged 24/7 should a downtime event be encountered. Unfortunately, support for this product is not the best, and we have had some back and forth discussions regarding some bugs in their API, as we have a large number of workloads being monitored, not being able to use an API to maintain all these workloads is a massive bottleneck. Thankfully for the most part, the API is good and we have been able to workaround this issue, but it would be nice if the Support was more attentive and the problem we encountered was resolved.

We needed a service that would monitor our sites' uptime and alert us if any of our web services go down. We have a main web application that supports thousands of customers, and about 30 smaller applications that support single high-value customers. This means we need at least 30 checks (really more like 40 because there are a number of different endpoints to check within our main application) so we wanted something that could be configured programmatically so that we don't have to maintain all of these checks by hand.
  • Alerting, particularly the integration with PagerDuty.
  • Reporting: the ability to go back and view the history of each status check (including details about every failure) as well as graphs and reports over a longer time period.
  • Weekly uptime report emails are very convenient.
  • Programmatic configuration is possible with a third-party Terraform plugin.
  • The PagerDuty integration could be a lot better. When you use the PagerDuty integration, it doesn't send any information about which check failed! It just sends a message like "Timeout (> 30s)" -- this isn't very helpful when we have hundreds of checks. We've worked around this by using both the PagerDuty and Slack integrations and having them both post to the same Slack channel. But this means that when an engineer is paged from PagerDuty, they have to go to Slack (or Pingdom) to find the details about the page; it's not available on the page itself.
I've found Pingdom to be the best solution for relatively simple uptime checks when you need a reliable way to run those checks and alert on failures. I haven't used their transaction monitoring or Real User Monitoring features but it may be great at those too.

We host a set of servers that we use for demonstration purposes, and to support ongoing commitment to open source communities by ensuring that they experience great uptime with our servers and services. Knowing that a server is down quickly is key to maintaining uptime. On the flip side, we need a solution that isn't burdensome or requires lots of agents or other integration in a broad set of target servers and services for monitoring. We find that Pingdom is right-sized for us. Not too complex, but sophisticated enough for the vast majority of our use cases. Pricing is right.
  • Easy monitoring of GET based services.
  • Simple to set up.
  • Nice notifications to email and text messaging.
  • Can also do POST, HEAD and other http verbs.
  • Configuring a POST with various types of Auth requires a bit more clicking about than is needed, some of the UI is a bit dated.
  • Moving beyond simple checks to multi-step checks (i.e Log in to the site, clicking profile, check images on the profile page) means a big jump in the price tag.
  • Be nice to integrate with more different systems for receiving notifications, it's pretty much just email and SMS.
Where you are aiming for simplicity in the tool. It's not the full lifecycle or has the features of tools like DataDog or New Relic in monitoring and understanding what is happening in your stack. It's basically a nice PING feature ;-) Hence the name. If you want to monitor all layers of your tech stack, this isn't the right tool. Want to know if some things are up and running, just fine!

Pingdom is the market leader in web monitoring tools. We use its monitoring for all of our clients. They are reliable and should be proud of [their] dependability. • Uptime monitoring
  • Transaction tests

We use Pingdom to monitor the uptime of several different pages on our website, as well as other web pages that support our website. Pingdom has also helped us monitor page load times and has helped us address downtime issues instantly. We use Pingdom within our team, so if a page is down or failing to load, there is typically someone ready to address the issue within minutes.
  • Allows alerts to be sent via SMS
  • Allows alerts to be sent to large groups of users
  • Reports downtime instantly
  • Pingdom counts paused checks as part of your available uptime checks. If you have 10 checks available in the Starter plan with 9 active and 1 paused, you will either need to upgrade to create more or delete the paused check.
  • (This would be a nice enhancement) When you run out of Pingdom email/SMS alerts for the month, you need to log in to see if any uptime checks are down or have been down in the last day. When you are out of alerts, it would be nice if Pingdom sent an email report at the end of each day to the Owner user of any downtime reported for that day.
If you have a website that experiences heavy traffic or will experience money lost due to any potential downtime, Pingdom is an essential tool. You have the option to pick from four different plans depending on which one works better for your website. However, if you have a website that does not meet either of those two scenarios, I don't believe Pingdom is a necessity.

SolarWinds Pingdom is our go-to up/down and response time monitoring solution for all of our external sites, apps, and services. It gives us real-time trusted intelligence as to the status, speed, and overall service level of each monitored endpoint.
  • Uptime monitoring
  • Response time measurements
  • Page speed analysis
  • Complex multi-step transaction checking
  • User management
  • Bulk editing
  • False positives due to down ISPs
Well suited for external apps that are easily publicly accessible, which need constant monitoring--high uptime and fast performance are the sweet spot. When knowing first is key, this is the way to always be leading the charge. Internal apps behind passwords, firewalls, etc. are much harder to set up.

Pingdom is a helpful tool that allows us to monitor websites we develop and run a variety of tests, identify trends, to ensure optimal performance. We especially love the page speed analysis tool which is helpful to benchmark our clients' websites' with performance grades and identity ways to improve page speed and overall performance.
  • Page speed monitoring and performance grading
  • Identifying performance issues and bottlenecks
  • Providing insights into how to improve website performance
  • Website uptime monitoring and alerts
  • The feature set is not as rich as it could be
  • While a great tool, its a bit pricey for what you get
  • Reports should be more customizable
If you are looking to take your page speed optimization to the next level, Pingdom is a great tool. It is very valuable at helping to identify issues, benchmark your pefromance and check to see the results of your optimization efforts. To maintain the health of websites, it is essential to continuously monitor them. If you work with clients and they have a transactional site, like BigCommerce or Shopify, you want to know when it does down immediately. The tool also provides feedback to check the website speed, and dig deep with results that are actionable.

  • Details
  • More colors in their interface :)
  • Maybe a white-label option for consultants
The page speed report details is great. You can dig into the filmstrip and timeline and see the breakdown of the visuals of the load and how the browsers read the lines of code. If you work with a team you can add other users and you can also email the report to others.

I oversee and manage a lot of clients' performance marketing channels. I work with hundreds of affiliates, run an internal team, and consult on marketing for clients. This usually leads to multiple iterations of funnels and pages for the client and my own internal products. With so many sites being live with millions of dollars of ad spend running through them, it's extremely dire that we know all of the sites are up and operational. A site going down that we don't know about could results in a major loss of revenue, customers, and can cause traffic suppliers to ban us from their program. Having Pindgom monitoring all of these sites and notifying us via Mobile, Email, and Slack Integration has been the very key to resolving any downtime issues that are inevitable to happen. This has resulted in us avoiding any of the above situations or lost revenue.
  • Monitoring as many websites as we can throw at it.
  • Customer Service has been extremely great with quick responses and resolution.
  • The ability to integrate with our chat client or via web hook with allows for maximum visibility amongst team members.
  • I think the UX could be improved some to make navigation a little easier.
  • More intuitive and granular reporting.
If you own any type of site that generates sales or if you own a company that is strictly e-commerce or online, this is a must have. Downtime means loss of revenue and customers. With so many factors that can affect your uptime, this is an essential part of your tool belt.

If you're primarily brick & mortar and your site is mainly just a way for people to find you, then this isn't going to make that huge of an impact. I'd still recommend having something to monitor your site, but this is something you can easily check yourself since your website probably isn't dire to your business.

It is our internal alert system for server uptime/downtime alerts within our IT and Engineering departments. Primarily it acts as a notification system to alert our IT that something is amiss and also the sales and support staff so that they can update customers accordingly. Secondarily, there are situational integrations that we have set up to act as alerts for the network connection for certain servers to alert a specific use-case group of users for testing purposes as well.
  • Customizable alerting: Allows text and email alerts that can be set up to run as many times as you wish and as frequently as you wish so that you can scale down or up accordingly to your use-case.
  • Integrations: We have integrated third-party applications such as Tibco products and Slack to bring alerting into our messaging system (Slack) and do alerting off of specific report run-times (Tibco products)
  • Communication: It offers groups of users that can be selected to alert based on a time interval so that we can alert teams based on the severity of the issue.
  • An easy way to update a mass group of alerts instead of one-by-one edits
  • Our less IT-oriented teams sometimes have a hard time understanding what the alerts mean, but that is a user education issue we should probably address ourselves to better explain purposes of alerts.
Easy set up to alerts to servers/reports on servers based on certain criteria exception cases. Great options for testing purposes and for production use-cases to use as a mass alerting system to teams of users on the health of network connectivity. The price point is good and flexible depending on the number of alerts you have set up/

Pingdom is being used by the whole organization to monitor uptime. Before Pingdom, we had to find out when a client site was down by going to the site or if a client contacted us about it. This tool allows us to be much more proactive and react as soon as we get a notification that there is downtime.
  • Lots of great functionalities that you can customize to create notifications and the reports you want
  • Easy to understand reports

  • There is nothing I don't like about Pingdom. It does exactly what I expect and need it to do but nothing more. It has a narrow purpose but it is an extremely useful tool.

Our service providers use Pingdom to monitor website availability and up times and the impact various 3rd parties that aid our website operation have one this. For example, we were recently able to see that one of our CDN accelerators were causing down times on one of our websites and we could take the reports out of Pingdom to prove this.
  • User-friendly Screens
  • Flexible reports
  • Tracks website up time
  • Additional reports
  • Historical view/ reports of up to 6 years
  • Weekly/Monthly report from Pingdom to users and clients alike showing up times etc
Pingdom is appropriate for site monitoring, website up times, website speed, DNS checks and also the convenience of accessing this on mobile apps. Its suitable for a support team, but it could be improved to make it more suitable for business users alike by having a skimmed version of it with less technical detailing and more layman-friendly reporting.
